Bed Sizes - FAQs

Is a double bed enough for two people?

A double bed can accommodate two adults, although it offers less room per person than a queen or king size bed. It can be a useful option for smaller bedrooms or occasional guest use. If you both like to stretch out, a larger size may be more comfortable.

What’s the difference between a queen and a king size bed?

A standard Australian queen mattress measures 153 x 203 cm, while a king mattress measures 183 x 203 cm. That means a king size gives you an extra 30 cm of width, which can make a difference when sharing a bed. Remember that bed frames may be larger than the mattress itself.

How much room should I leave around my bed?

Aim for around 60-75 cm of clear space along the sides you need to access and at the foot of the bed where possible. This gives you room to walk comfortably, open drawers and use your bedside furniture. Check the full bed frame dimensions before buying, as these can be larger than the mattress size.
